Meals on Wheels
View Current Month's Menu (in Aging & Disability Resource Center monthly newsletter)
Meals on Wheels are available to people who are 60 years of age or older and essentially homebound and a spouse of someone who qualifies regardless of age. A younger person with a disability may also qualify.
Meals are delivered throughout all of Eau Claire County. Most of the meals are delivered by volunteers. The menu is available in the monthly Newsletter and on this website. All meals are reduced in fat and have no added salt. Each meal contains 1/3 of the Recommended Daily Allowance of food per day for the older adult for calcium, vitamin A, vitamin C, protein, fat and carbohydrate. Special diets are available for those with special dietary needs. A prescription from a health professional is required. These diets include Diabetic, Low Sodium, Low Lactose, Vegetarian, Mechanical Soft, Pureed, Renal, Low Residue and Thickened Liquids. These hot meals are available Monday through Friday. A cold meal is available to those who need help with weekend and holiday meals.
More than just a meal……The Meals on Wheels program also provides a daily check on individuals. If there is concern when delivering meals, a designated contact person will be contacted for follow-up. A home visit is required prior to starting meals to determine eligibility and to assist with referrals to other services, if needed.
Cost: Total cost of each meal is $8.81. Suggested donation is $3.50. All contributions are confidential and voluntary. SNAP/Quest cards are accepted as payment or donation. No one will be denied a meal based on their donation.
