HISTORY OF DEPARTMENT: |
The department was created by Title IV-D of the Social Security Act in 1975 in response to the increased costs of welfare. The congressional focus was to make people responsible for the support of their own children. Services have expanded to all custodial parents in need of child and medical support, and paternity determination of non-marital children. |

MISSION STATEMENT: |
The Child Support Agency assures support for children of single parents and provides services in the most expeditious and efficient manner possible. |
