Eau Claire County Recycling Program
Curbside Recycling - Updated on June 4, 2008
Eau Claire County provides curbside recycling service to those who live in single-family through four-unit dwellings and who reside in what are called designated service areas. This service is provided by the following refuse haulers under contract with Eau Claire County:
Olson Disposal [834-3508]
Veolia Waste Services [839-9553]
Valley Waste [833-7040]
Waste Management [723-7241]
The designated services areas include all of Altoona, Augusta, Eau Claire, the village of Fairchild, Fall Creek, and Washington, as well as subdivisions in Brunswick, Clear Creek, Pleasant Valley, Seymour and Union. In practice, however, the haulers generally provide curbside recycling service in all areas of the county where they offer refuse collection.
If you live in a single-family home, duplex, triplex or fourplex in a designated service area and if you have garbage service, your garbage hauler automatically becomes your recycling hauler. If you do not have garbage service but wish to have curbside recycling service, then you may choose any hauler who provides service in the area where you live.
When you begin curbside recycling service, the hauler will provide you with a recycling bin and collection at least every other week. In some communities, local ordinances require weekly collection.
If you live in any community except the City of Eau Claire, Eau Claire County pays the hauler for the entire cost of the service. If you live within the city, you will be billed by the hauler for a portion of the cost - the remainder will be paid by the county. In 2008, the charge will be $0.67 per month or $8.00 for the year. If you are interested in understanding the reason for the difference between the City of Eau Claire and the other communities, please read the section on funding for the recycling program.
