Eau Claire County Recycling Program
Automotive Waste Drop-off Locations
The following are banned by state law from landfills: antifreeze, lead-acid batteries, motor oil and tires. Starting January 1, 2011 new legislation has added oil filters to this list.
Antifreeze and oil filters are also accepted as part of the County Clean Sweep program for a fee. Motor oil is accepted as part of Clean Sweep at no charge. Transmission fluid can be recycled along with motor oil.
Used automotive (lead acid) batteries may be taken to any retailer in Wisconsin who sells them. This may include some of the stores in the table above. Under state law, the retailer may not charge you if you are purchasing a battery from the business. If you are not buying a battery, you may be charged up to $3.00 by the store. Scrap yards, listed in the yellow pages, also accept lead acid batteries, and depending on the market price of lead, may pay you a small fee.
The table below represents SOME BUSINESSES which accept anti-freeze, motor oil, oil filters, automotive batteries and tires. It may be best to look in a phone book for additional auto service centers who could accept these items in your area.
