Eau Claire County Recycling Program
Current Events & Announcements - Updated November 13, 2009
1. The fourth and final Clean Sweep collection for 2009 will be held on Saturday, November 14 at WRR Environmental Services, 5200 Ryder Road, from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. If you are bringing items for which there is a collection fee, please note that payment for this event is by cash or check only. No credit card payments will be accepted.
2. The annual appliance, computer, television and electronics round-up, held on Saturday, September 19, was very successful. There were 702 households that participated, bringing with them 2,036 items for recycling - the second highest total in the 13 years we've offered the program.
3. A new opportunity for recycling some appliances at no cost is now available. The business will accept stoves, refrigerators, freezers, microwave ovens, washers, dryers if they are clean, in one piece, and have all their parts. The business will also accept the following electronics: Computer CPU's and printers, keyboards, laptops, stereos, radios and vacuum cleaners. Note that the business will not take computer monitors or televisions. The business is located on the northside of Eau Claire. Items are accepted by appointment only - call 832-4248 if interested.
4. First Choice Computer Recycling is moving in mid-November from 1125 Starr Avenue to 525 Park Ridge Court, Eau Claire. This street runs off the east side of North Clairemont, just north of Menomonie Street. Their phone number remains 833-2005.
5. Compact fluorescent lamps may now be recycled year round. For free! Because these lamps contain mercury, this is good news. Click here for more information
6. Eau Claire Ace Hardware (2618 Birch St, 836-7788) now accepts non-compact fluorescent lamps (4', 8', circular and u-shaped) for recycling. There is a fee charged. Residents no longer need to wait until Clean Sweep programs to properly dispose of these items. Click here for options on recycling non-compact fluorescent lamps.
7. The county brush site is open on Tuesdays 12:00 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. The last day we will be open for 2009 is Tuesday, November 17. For more information, please click on the brush disposal link on the left side of this page.
8. The county's automated telephone message system for providing basic recycling information is now operational. If you want information on the brush site, Clean Sweep, or the hours and locations of the county drop-box program, call 839-6159 (or 1-800-322-8919) and follow the prompts.
